LOCAL NOTES ESKDALE. ****** A public ball was held at the Woolpack Inn, Eskdale, on Friday, about 40 couples being present, and all enjoyed a jolly night. The music was supplied by Messrs. TYSON and TAYLOR. ****** A "clay" pigeon shooting was held at Woolpack Inn on Saturday, and some capital sport was furnished. The first prize, a set of carvers, was won by J. E. HARTLEY, 7 out of 10; second, copper kettle, by F. DIXON, 3 out of 5. Sweepstakes were got up, and the winners were: J. E. HARTLEY, F. DIXON, G. HARTLEY, and J. GRAVES. The competition was an all-round success, though the old time shooters think they go too fast nowadays. ****** Tommy DOBSON is visiting Little Langdale with his pack this week. Eskdale folks would like to have a little more hunting at home. The concert and ball in aid of Tommy DOBSON have been set for February 19th, at Bowerhouse. ****** A shooting match will be decided at Boot on January 30th, between two well known sportsmen. ****** The Eskdale Football Club are very short of fixtures, and would like to hear from some Association Teams. Address: D. GRIFFITHS, secretary. ****** The Scawfell Lodge of Mechanics at a meeting on Saturday elected Dr. CASS, Ravenglass, as the lodge doctor. On the ballot, Dr. CASS received 72 votes; Drs. PARKER and POWERS, 56; and 36 votes were recorded against the appointment of any doctor. |
