WORKINGTON LOCAL BOARD OF HEALTH continued.....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ THE EXTENSION OF THE DISTRICT. The CHAIRMAN read a letter from theLocal Government Board, stating that the Provisional Order, No. 11, Bill, relating to the extension of the Workington Urban distrtict, had received the Royal Assent. THE WATER QUESTION. The CHAIRMAN said they had not yet received a copy of the minutes adopted at the meeting of the Joint Water Committee last week, but he had to state that MR. FLETCHER, the chairman of that committee, had given notice that he would move a resolution at the next meeting, which would take place in a month, that Workington should be restricted to their 560,000 gallons of water per day. If at present the Workington Local Board took more water than that quantity, it interfered with the supply of Cockermouth and the rural districts and MR. FLETCHER did not think it was fair that Workington should be allowed to take an extra quantity. The motion took the Workington representatives by surprise. Whether the Joint Water Committee had power to pass such a resolution until Workington was receiving two millions of gallons of water per day, was a question. It was decided to hold a special meeting in a fortnight to consider the minutes of the Joint Water Committee. **Workington Local Board of Health will continue**....................... |
