FATAL ACCIDENT AT PARTON. - On Saturday afternoon a child named HENRY DUFF, aged three years, who had wandered on the platform of Parton Railway Station, fell between the platform and a passenger train. The train was just stopping at the time, and the little fellow was got out without, it was thought, having sustained any serious hurt. It turned out, however, on DR. DICK attending the child, that he had sustained internal injuuries. He died on Sunday.

PARTON CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH SUNDAY-SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY. - The anniversary of the above school was held on Saturday last, when special sermons were preached morning and evening by MR. WILLIAM PIPER, of Alstonby, near Carlisle, and in the afterenoon by the REV. A. NAIRN. The children, afternoon and evening, gave recitations and sung appropriate hymns. The congregations were large. Collections were taken at the close of each service in aid of the school funds. Monday following the children's trip was to Gilgarron. Tea was provided by the teachers at Whinbank Farm, and a field was lent by MR. ROBINSON, near Feather Knot. Various games were heartily indulged in. A return for home was made at half-past seven o'clock, and the whole party, nearly 200, safely arrived a Moresby-terrace road end a few minutes after eight o'clock.

CAPTURE OF AN ABSCONDING DEBTOR. - A clever capture has just been effected of an absconding debtor by the Newcastle police. A short time ago, a considerable business was carried on in Newcastle, South Shields, and Whitehaven, by MR. GEORGE FREDERICK GREAVES, as a dealer in pianofortes and musical instruments. Recently, however, MR. GREAVES closed his places of business at Newcastle and South Shields, and carried on his Whitehaven shop alone.
A petition in bankruptcy was, about a fortnight ago , filed against him in the Newcastle Court, by MR. STANFORD, on behalf of the London creditors. MR. GREENER, accountant, was appointed receiver and manager, and at once proceeded to Whitehaven to take possession, but on arriving there found that the debtor had sold his stock and furniture, realised all his available estate, and had absconded.
MR. GREENER subsequently learned that the debtor had sailed from Liverpool to Ontario, and a warrant was applied for and granted for his arrest. The warrant was placed by MR. GREENER in the hands of CAPTAIN NICHOLLS (chief constable of Newcastle), who immediately telegraphed to the police at Quebec, by whom the prisoner was arrested on Saturday last, on board the S.S. Parisian.
Information of the arrest was sent to Newcastle, and SUPT. ANDERSON, of the Prudhoe-street police station, was sent out to receive him into custody.
