FATAL BOATING ACCIDENT.  Three young men, named PARTRIDGE, WHITMARSH, and
HALL, of Lowestoft, accompanied by two young women, named KNIGHTS and
NEWSON, who resided near Mutford Bridge, were sailing on Monday evening in a
small boat near Burgh St. Peter, when the craft upset.  PARTRIDGE succeeded
in swimming ashore with MISS NEWSON.  HALL, it is believed in attempting to
save MISS KNIGHTS, was taken down, and both drowned.
The bodies were recovered, with HALL's arm round KNIGHT's waist, and
KNIGHT's hand grasping HALL's throat.

THE NEW RULES OF PROCEDURE.  A report is in circulation that negotiations
are passing between the Liberal and Conservative leaders in the House of
Commons with the view of arriving at such an understanding as to the new
rules of procedure as will enable them to be disposed of before the close of
the present sitting, and thus obviate the necessity of the House meeting in
the autumn.  Should the negotiations be successful, it is expected that
Parliament will be prorogued on the 18th of August.

A STEAM FERRY BRIDGE ADRIFT.  The steam ferry bridge connecting Devonport
with Torpoint, broke adrift on Tuesday by the snapping of both of her
enormous chains, nearly half a mile long.  She rapidly moved helplessly up
the harbour.  The numerous passengers were greatly alarmed lest she should
come into collision with one of the men-of-war, and several small crafts had
narrow escapes.  The ponderous machine, after drifting a mile, was caught
and towed to a place of safety.
