LOCAL & DISTRICT INTELLIGENCE - COCKERMOUTH continued........................
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CURIOUS ACCIDENT AT BRIGHAM RAILWAY STATION. - On Monday last a curious accident occurred at Brigham Railway station.  The 2.26 market train from Cockermouth through the want of brake power, dashed through Brigham station instead of stopping, and proceeded a considerable distance along the rails before it could be checked.
   The train was not pushed back to the station, and the consequence was that the passengers who wished to leave it had to jump a considerable height from the carriage steps to the ground.
   One of the passengers, MRS. HARRIS, of Great Broughton, received what were at first thought to be severe injuries to her leg in thus jumping.  We understand, however, that the injuries were not of so serious a nature as was at first feared, and that MRS. HARRIS is recovering.
