Attempted Suicide at Upperby Print E-mail

On Tuesday night last, a man named John HETHERINGTON, brick-layer, residing at Upperby, attempted to commit suicide by cutting his throat with a razor.

It appears that he had been drinking during the day, and went home about ten o’clock considerably under the influence of drink; some angry words passed between him and his wife when he attempted to strike her, but she escaped. He then took a razor and drew it across his throat, inflicting a somewhat deep but not dangerous wound, which was attended by Dr. SULLIVAN, of Carlisle.

He was apprehended on Wednesday, and will be brought before the Magistrates to-morrow, (Saturday).
