SHORT NEWS ARTICLES. ______ ************* The Duke of BUCCLEUCH has arrived at Dalkeith Palace near Edinburgh, for the winter. ************ F. W. GRAHAM, Esq., arrived at Netherby Hall, on Monday, the 23rd instant, where he purposes to remain a short season. ************ By order of the Board of Guardians, the inmates of the Workhouse of the Brampton Union, were regaled with beef and plum pudding on Christmas Day. ************ J. RAMSHAY, Esq., of Naworth Castle, Cumberland, has purchased the produce of Bee's Wing, who is in foal to Lanercost, colt or filly, to be delivered at six months old, for 200 guineas. Bee's Wing is as likely to be as profitable in the stud as she was in the turf; her last produce was sold before it was foaled, to Captain BUTLER for 500 guineas. ***************** Capt. KERMODE, late of Mona's Isle steamer, has been appointed to the command of the Whitehaven Steam Navigation Company's packet, the Earl of LONSDALE, vice THOMPSON, who takes charge of the company's new iron steamer, Queen. *************** INSTALLATION OF NEW DEAN. On Tuesday morning last, the Rev. D. CRANMER was instituted, inducted, and installed, as Dean of Carlisle, with all the ceremonial usual on such occasions. Mr. Prebendary HARCOURT was the officiating Canon. On Christmas Day the new Dean preached in the Cathedral, which was attended on the occasion by a very numerous congregation. ********************** |
