PENRITH CHRISTMAS
SHOW OF BEEF.
____

The Christmas show of meat took place on  Tuesday last, and, as usual,
excited great interest. The quantity was a full  average, and it was considered
that, generally speaking, there was a very  decided improvement in quality.

Amongst the carcases that attracted most  observation was that of a fine
three year old beast, a cross between a short  horn and the Old English breed,
belonging to Mr. Jonathan COLLIN, of Longsteels,  near Penrith, and which was
found to weigh twenty stones the quarter.

Remarkably fine beef was also shown on  the stalls of Messrs. CLARKE,
FAWCWTT, WHARTON, STEPHENSON, Mrs CARRICK &c  &c.

Mr. WHARTON, of Eamont Bridge, also  showed a very first rate sheep of
Leicester breed, which weighed 35lb. per  quarter, and measured nearly four
inches in the rib of pure fat. This fine  animal was bred and fed by Mr. John
TALLANTIRE, of the RIGGS Farm, near  Penrith.
