HIGHWAY ROBBERY.
_______

On Wednesday week, as Mr. William SCOTT,  of Silloth, Holme Cultram, was
on his way to pay his rent at Allonby, he fell  into company with a man named
John TYSON, a native of Distington, and with whom  he had something to drink.

TYSON took advantage of the  acquaintance, and between Beckfort and
Allonby he contrived to rob Mr. SCOTT of  the whole of his rent, which amounted to
about £36. On Saturday morning last,  Mr. OAKLEY, superintendent of the
Workington Police, visited Whitehaven, and  after some preliminary inquiries, he
apprehended the offender in Charles Street,  together with a young female with
whom he cohabits.

On Tuesday last the parties were taken  before the sitting magistrates,
at Workington, when TYSON was committed for  trial. A few years ago this man
was transported for criminal assault upon Ann  YOUNG, of Dearham, near Maryport.
