EIGHT LIVES LOST On Monday morning last a most calamitous and extensive loss loss of life occurred at a mine at Kingswinford, belonging, we are informed, to Messrs. MATTHEWS. The men were descending to their work, when a rope sustaining the skip broke, and they were all, eight in number, precipitated to the bottom and killed. At the moment we write this it is believed not to be the full extent of the calamity, as it is thought that another person at the bottom of the pit has been killed by the fall of the skip. To whom the blame may attach on the melancholy occasion it would of course be premature to assert. - Wolverhampton Chronicle. ***************************** |
