Bankers Beware Print E-mail
Carlisle Patriot - December 27th, 1844
BANKERS BEWARE !
_____

An unsuccessful attempt was made to rob the Glasgow Union Bank, established at Thornhill, on Sunday last, during church time.

The parties, we understand, displayed great ingenuity in effecting an entrance; but as teh safe was fortunately inaccessible, they were forced to content themselves by opening desks, and carrying off the paltry sum of £3.

No thanks, however, for their rascally forbearance under the circumstances; and although the full particulars are not yet known, we expect to be able to give them some time to-morrow.

As our very active superintendent of the rural police, Mr. JONES, has been placed on alert, with all men under him, guided by the council's and knowledge of Procurator - Fiscal, it is exceedingly probable that the offenders will be traced and apprehended; but in the meantime, let all bankers be on their guard, lest a deputation from the "swell mob" of London should again be in Scotland.
