ACCIDENT AT WATERGATE COLLIERY. On Monday last a serious accident occurred at Watergate Colliery to a coal miner named Joseph JACKSON, residing at Flimby. It appears that JACKSON was working in company with a man named William NICHOLSON, and was about to fire a shot in some top coal when a large quantity of it suddenly fell upon him. NICHOLSON, who was standing near, narrowly escaped. The coal was removed as quickly as possible from the unfortunate man, who was afterwards removed to his home. A messenger was despatched for Dr. SPURGIN, of Maryport, who on arriving found that one of his patient's legs had been broken, and that he was suffering from serious internal injuries. ****** |
