WOOL MARKETS. ****** HALIFAX, SATURDAY. - There is a little more activity in the wool market. Merinos and cross breds are in fairly good demand and prices are hardening. English wools are also in the better request, but values are about the same as last week. ****** LEICESTER, SATURDAY. - There is a more pronounced movement in the wool market in the direction of a higher range of quotations for almost all descriptions of both home and colonial produce. The consumption of fine soft wools is well maintained, while the supplies are of very moderate extent and holders are quite indifferent to business unless higher quotations are conceded, while users show more anxiety to cover future requirements when they can do so on favourable terms. English wools are still a slow dragging trade, but Shropshires are more sought after, and there is more buoyancy in prices, although home grown wools, has as a whole, been only slightly affected by the advances in the most fashionable colonial descriptions. ****** BRADFORD, MONDAY - Wool maintains a strong position, merinos having risen a trifle further and fine crossbreds fully firm. English wools are a shade harder so far as deep grown qualities are concerned. Mohairs remain quiet but steady. In the export yarn trade single yarns are wanted and bought in great quantity. Thick counts of twofold are also fairly in demand. Some of the ordinary lines still neglected. Manufacturers busy. ****** |
