Gottenburgh arrived to the 11th. French made two dreadful sorties from
Dresden, in both of which they were driven back with great slaughter; the
Allies were however obliged to retire in the afternoon of the 29th, for want of
provisions, and owing to the state of the weather.

       BLUCHER's defeat of MACDONALD was between Katzbach and the Bober,
taking 15,000 prisoners - 103 pieces of cannon, 415 ammunitions waggons, four
Generals, and five Eagles.

       MOREAU, it is true, has lost both his legs, is not dead, but expected
to recover.

       The Gazette Saturday contains the returns of killed, wounded and
missing, in the siege and assault of St. Sebastian, and in the action of the 31st
August and the 1st of September, details of which are inserted in the Gazette
Extraordinary. From these we collect, that in officers, sergeants, drummers and
privates, the total killed, 1,459; missing 70. Regiments that suffered most,
3d battalion royals, 1st battalions of 4th, 9th and 47th regts and 59th
regiment, last mentioned regiment had 8 officers, 4 sergeants, 106 rank and file
killed; 12 officers, 8 sergeants, 1 drummer, and 213 rank and file wounded.

       Mr. SOUTHEN is said to be appointed Poet Laureat.

       An estate of £6,000 per annum and nearly £40,000 in specie, recently
devolved on the family of the late Rev. Mr. GLASSE, rector of Hanwell,
Middlesex, whose pecuniary distresses, some time since, so unfortunately led to his
lamentable dissolution!

       Lord Mayor continues to pull up the bakers on their fallacious
returns; every act of which, exposes the offender to a prosecution for perjury, as
well as to the payment of heavy penalties.

       The Earl of Kingston, on day last week, ay Heydon, bagged fifty-six
brace of Partridges, for a wager with the Earl of Yarmouth, for a large sum.

       The plentiful harvest enables ministers to raise the wind in Ireland,
by permitting the distilleries there to commence working on the 14th of
October.

       Swedes and Danes now use the dried leaf of the potatoe as  a
substitute for tobacco.
