MAN KILLED ON THE RAILWAY AT MOSSBAY.

Mr M'Kelvie held an inquest at the Victoria Hotel, Workington on Tuesday evening, touching the death of WILLIAM REID 18 years of age, a labourer at the Mossbay Ironworks.-  The evidence showed at a quarter to six that morning, a coke train, comprising 20 waggons and a brake van, left Workington for Whitehaven in charge of GEORGE WHITE, a driver.  It appears to be a practice for workmen at Mossbay living at Workington to get into the waggons or the brake van of this train; and on Tuesday morning deceased and his brother got into one of the waggons. At Mossbay the train drew up, and deceased fot up tp get out, when the waggon received a sudden jerk, and he was thrown out.  He fell between the couplings, and the wheels of the brake van passed over him, killing him on the spot.-  The Jury found a verdict  of "Accidental death".
