TRIPLE BIRTH. A case of triple birth occurred at Cleator Moor early on Saturday morning last, when a Mrs. BLAKENEY, resident in Duke Street, was safely delivered of two girls and a boy. One of the girls and the boy died on Monday, and the other is not likely to live. The mother is doing well. An application is likely to be made for the usual bounty granted by her Majesty the Queen. ****** LENTEN SERVICES. At St. Kentigern's Church services have been held every Wednesday and Friday since Lent commenced, and will be continued till the advent of Easter. During Passion or Holy Week, commencing on Sunday, April 2nd, the usual services will be held every evening, with the usual morning services on Good Friday. The services were conducted by the Rev. T. W. POWELL, M. A., vicar; and the Rev. W. J. WAINWRIGHT, B. A., curate. ********** WHITEHAVEN MARKET, YESTERDAY. Several samples of oats offered for seed, the tiniest qualities selling at 10s.; no wheat, no barley. Store grain: Indian corn, dearer; small demand for wheat; oats slow; few arrivals. ********** THEATRICALS. One of the best and strongest theatrical companies that has visited Wigton for a long time opened in the Kings Arms Assembly room on Monday evening, under the management of Mr. GATHERCOLE. It has been fairly patronised. ********** WIGTON MUTUAL IMPROVEMENT CLASS. The usual weekly meeting of the above class was held on Tuesday last in the British School-room. A paper on "Newspapers" was read by the secretary, Mr. J. STRONG. The Rev. J. MITCHELL was Chairman. ********** |
