THE SHIPPING TRADE. The coal shipments from this port still continue to be very slack, and many of the collieries in the district are only working part time. During the week two Italian barques have arrived from Balitmore - The Bartolomo Simone, with a cargo of wheat, and the Luigena R., with maize, both consigned to Messrs CARR & Co. Amongst other arrivals have been the City of Hamburg (s) which has taken a cargo of pig iron to Rotterdam; the Rydal Fell (s) with Spanish ore, and is now loading pig iron for Newport; the Primrose (s) and the J.M. Lennard (s) from France, have also loaded pig iron for Rotterdam. During the present month there has been a large shipment of iron for Liverpool by a number of small steamers. The Mary Watters has arrived with a cargo of cement for Mr. DOHERTY, and the Fairy and the Catherina have brought slates from Port Dinorwic, the former for Mr. T. MANDLE, and the latter for Messrs. GRAHAM, ANDERSON and Co., of Carlisle and Maryport. The Leonard, from Bristol, has brought a cargo of wheat from Bristol for Mr. C. LING, of Carlisle. The Tasmania has arrived with blood manure from Messrs GOULDING, of Dublin; the Sprightly, Hematite, Industry and the Esther, have all brought pit wood and the Effort and Tom Green have brought cargoes of seeds. ****** |
