THE TRADE OF WORKINGTON.

The Derwent Tinplate Works and the Lowther Ironworks are, it is to be regretted, lying idle at the present time. The cause of the stoppage at the last named works is owing to an accident happening to the chimney, but it is anticipated that the works will be in full swing again in a week.

ACCIDENT.

On Saturday morning last some boys were amusing themselves on the Harrington-road, near to the Moss Bay houses, and one of their number, named John GEORGE, got upon a hedge, and in jumping from it he fell and broke his arm, a rib, and sustained other injuries. He is progressing favourably towards recovery.

COFFE SUPPER AT LITTLE BROUGHTON.

On Friday evening last the special services which have been conducted for some weeks past in the Primitive Methodist Chapel at Little Broughton, by Mrs. ANDERSON, of Maryport, were brought to a close. At the close of the service a coffee supper was held, and to which a goodly number of persons sat down.

A TRIP TO THE WEST INDIES.

On Monday evening last the Rev. T. BAKER, of Keswick, delivered a lecture entitled "A Trip to the West Indies" in connection with the Cockermouth Young Men's Christian Association, in the room of the association. There was a good attendance, and the chair was occupied by Mr. J. RAINE. The lecture was a very able and interesting one, and was listened to attentively throughout. At the close the usual vote of thanks was passed to the lecturer, who briefly responded.
