NEW POSTAL ARRANGEMENTS AT MEALSGATE.
 
    A money order office has been established at  Mealsgate, and the letters
now have the Mealsgate stamp upon them. A telegraph  office is also promised.
It is greatly wanted, Wigton and Aspatria being the  nearest places from which
communication can be sent.

LOCAL OPTION MEETING.
 
    A meeting in favour of the Local Option movement  was held in the New
Schools on Friday evening. Mr. DODD of Bothel presided. Mr.  PATON agent of the
United Kingdom Alliance, delivered an earnest and practical  address in favour
of Local Option, which was attentively listened to  and  frequently applauded.
Votes of thanks to Mr. PATON and the chairman brought a  very pleasant
meeting to a close.

LECTURE.
 
    Under the auspices of the Aspatria Public Good  Committee several very
appropriate readings were given by Mr. VALLANCE,  Professor of Elocution, on
Sunday afternoon last, in the noble Temple. Mr.  FARRALL presided, and performed
his duties in a very creditable manner. The room  was crowded and all seemed
highly pleased with their afternoon treat. At the  conclusion the usual votes
of thanks were accorded.

HOME MISSION SERVICES.
 
    The Aspatria Branch of the home Missions have for  some time  been
holding services in the New School and the Primitive  Methodist Chapel. They are
conducted in an orderly and becoming manner, are well  attended and cannot fail
to be a means of doing much good in the neighbourhood.  The meetings are held
every Wednesday and Sunday evening.
