SALVATION ARMY TEA MEETING. On Wednesday evening last a tea meeting in connection with the Salvation Army was held in the Temperance Hall, and was very successful, fully 500 persons partaking of tea. The tables were tastefully decorated with vases of cut flowers, &c., and there was an abundance of good things provided to satisfy comers. There were plenty of waiters (both ladies and gentleman) and as soon as one batch of drinkers was satisfied there was another waiting to take their places. A meeting was afterwards held in the auction mart, and was well attended. There was a larger audience than has ever been present at any religious meeting in the town. The platform was crowded with people of all ages, many of them well known in the town for their love of drink and hatred of work. Some of them gave their "testimony" in a way that carried conviction with it that the change both outwardly and inwardly was real. The service was conducted by Mr. George FELL, of Burnfoot. The addresses were earnest and no one could desire a more appreciative congregation. The singing was good and hearty, and was generally taken up with spirit by the people; the cornet accompaniment being effective. Mr. ROBINSON of Bridge-bank; Mr. Thomas BROWN, saddler; and Miss. HORNSBY, Abbey House, also gave addresses. ********** ST. PATRICK'S DAY. The annual celebration of St. Patrick's Day took place on Friday evening last, in the catholic Schools, when a vocal, instrumental, and dramatic programme was efficiently rendered. The attendance of the public was large, and that the audience enjoyed the performance was signified by their frequent applause. The chair was taken by the Rev. C. W. CLIFTON. The programme was an excellent one, and the following ladies and gentlemen took part in it: Miss. JOHNSTON Mrs. HADDON Mr. C. R. TAYLOR, in addition to several others. Miss. JOHNSTONE sang in excellent style and was loudly encored, but did not respond owing to the length of the programme. **********
