PUBLIC MORALITY.

On Wednesday evening last a meeting was held in the Public Hall, Cockermouth under the auspices of the Ladies' National Association for the abolition of the State Regulation of Vice. The Rev. W. WATSON presided.

Mrs. STEWARD and Miss. CRAIGEN addressed the meeting. Mr. IRWIN moved the following resolution, which was seconded by Miss. STEWARD, supported by the Rev. R. JACKSON, and carried unanimously.

"That the Contagious Diseases Acts of 1866 and 1869 are utterly unconstitutional and immoral in their tendencies, and at variance with the Divine law, and ought to be repealed."

Mr. G. PRIOR then moved that the chairman be authorised, on behalf of the meeting, to sign a petition to Parliament, praying for the repeal of the Acts. This was seconded by Miss. CRAIGEN, and carried unanimously.
