DEATH OF MR. J. THORNBURN.
  The death of Mr Joseph THORNBURN, of Papcastle, has caused
a feeling of sorrow throughout Cockermouth and neighbouring
villages. Mr THORNBURN died on Sunday about noon, after an
illness of some weeks. The deceased was noted for his piety, and
spent the greater part of his life in trying to benefit his fellow-men.
Underneath  a rough and somewhat eccentric exterior there was
a noble spirit and generous heart.
He was a sincere Christian, and his death is universally regretted,
not only by those living in his own immediate district. but by
all who knew him, and by the Christian community at large.
He was buried on Wednesday at Bridekrik, and a large number
of persons attended the funeral.
