SHOCKING ACCIDENT. A fatal accident happened on Wednesday afternoon at the new pit situated near to the West Cumberland Iron and Steel Works, and owned by Messrs. MULCASTER and Son. It appeared that a man named Joseph MESSENGER, aged 21 years, who resided at Seaton, and was employed at the pit, was working at the bottom. He was in the act of breaking a piece of coal when a large stone fell from the roof on his head and killed him on the spot. The father of the unfortunate man was working only a few yards from him, and saw the accident occur. He removed the stone and when he did he found his son dead. The body was removed to Seaton. **********
