CRIME IN IRELAND.

The record of crime in Ireland during the last day or two has been distressingly heavy. We see that in one of the latest outrages committed under the auspices of the Land League, the assassins hired to murder the obnoxious person did not hesitate to fire at a young lady who happened to be in his company, and inflicted upon her painful if not dangerous wounds. Perhaps Mr. HEALY, or some friends of his in the house of Commons, will tell us - if they dare - what they think of an outrage of this kind.

At all events the next time they address challenges to the Prime Minister or Mr. FORSTER on the subject of the luxuries allowed to the imprisoned "suspects" it is to be hoped that some member of the House will retort upon them by challenging them to repudiate such acts of brutality as that of which Tubbercurry has just been the scene.

In the meantime it is somewhat reassuring to learn that in this particular case the assassins have not got off as easily as usual. They were fired at twice, and a number of men who are believed to have been members of a gang, were actually arrested by the police in the neighbourhood of the spot where the crime was committed.
