The Maryport Advertiser - 25 March, 1882

 A NEW YEAR'S TREAT.
Tis New Years Day, so, friend, to you
want to say a word or two.
Pray stay a moment, lend your ear,
This is the time for words of cheer,
I wish you now a right good year,
With troubles few, and pence to spare,
And now, my friend, pray will you say
What you intend to do to-day?
For I was thinking if 'twould be
 Convenient to you as me,
That we along the road might walk
And thus might have a friendly talk.
 All right, you'll come; I thought you would;
Refuse me that you hardly could.
Well, now I want to tell you,
A little scheme I have in view.
When first I lived in Water-Street,
I always gave my boys a treat
At Christmastime, and now, this year,
If time enough I have to spare,
I mean to take them all to see
 The Wigton Clothing Factory
Tis really worth a visit friend,
For there are wonders without end,
 The cutting-out machine to me
 Is just a perfect mystery.
While that for the fast'ning buttons on
Is scarcely less a wonderous one.
Then there's the sales room just below,
And there, of course, I always go
When trousers, coat, or vest I need,
 Of worsted-cloth, or handsome tweed.
The clothes are cheap, and nicely made,
I know no better in the trade.
Now, will you go along with me
That you the place as well may see?
