Boston Papers Print E-mail
The Cumberland Pacquet - 25 Feb 1812
We received this morning Boston Papers to the 19th ult. They state, that
loud as the clamour is, there will be no war.

"Boston, Jan. 18. -- Mr. FOSTER's carriage having been seen at Mr. MONROE's
door has occasioned many crude reports to be circulated -- it is however
stated, that Mr. F. has required an explanation on the war talks and
preparations. I have not heard what the answer, if any, has been."

On the 10th ult. the American Senate receded from the only remaining point
of difference between that body and the Representatives, with regard to the
Additional Military Force Bill. On the 11th the following resolution was
submitted to the House of Representatives for discussion on a future day: --

That the President of the United States be requested to cause to be laid
before this House, a list of the ships and vessels of the United States,
that have been captured and condemned under the authority of the British
Government, since the treaty of Amity, Commerce, and Navigation of 1794, as
well as the amount of indemnification to such captures.

The United States Bank Stock has risen to 95, the 6 per Cents. to 113, and
the 3 per Cents. to 71. This is ascribed to the investment in those funds of
large remittances from this country to the American merchants.
