The members of the Parish Church Choir held a whist drive in the Kirkstile Rooms on Monday evening. The stormy weather and flooded roads prevented many from attending and only about half the available tables were filled. Forty-eight players took part, and Mr. William BEATTIE was the M. C. Mrs. SHERWEN distributed the prizes as follows: - Ladies:- 1. Mrs. BARRACLOUGH, Branthwaite. 2. Miss. S. A. BORTHWICK, Ullock. 3. Miss. E. M. FEARON, Dean. Consolation, Miss. A. BARWISE, Branthwaite Gentlemen: - 1. Mr. Wm. GREEN, Ullock. 2. Mr. B. LEWTHWAITE, Dean. 3. Mr. W. B. GRAYSON, Ullock. Consolation Mr. W. MIREHOUSE, Ullock. A vote of thanks to Mrs. SHERWEN, and those who had given prizes, was proposed by the M. C. and carried. Messrs. J. HAY and H. IRWIN were the doorkeepers. |
