The Allonby Branch of the League of Nations Union  celebrated the
commencement of its sixth year of service by holding, on Monday,  in the
Reading Room,
its largest meeting since it was  founded.

Mr. W. H. WILLIAMSON presided, and the programme was  in the hands of Mr. J.
H. CUSHING, who linked together its various items, making  of it a whole
which
was both interesting and inspiring.

Miss. HUNTER, Misses. NIXON, KITCHIN and GRAHAM sang  songs illustrating the
sentiments of Rushkin, Lowell &c. Four younger  ladies, Misses K. and E.
DIXON, D. THOMPSON and Nora METCALFE sand “Jerusalem”  and “Land of My
Fathers,”
set to the words of a peace poem. Hannah HODGSON and  Edith WILSON sang very
sweetly and effectively the Toc H Hymn of Light. Miss.  JEFFERSON sang a
solo,
the words being by O. W. HOLMES.

The Vicar, Rev. H. WHITELEY read extracts from  Longfellow and Whittier, and
Mr. CUSHING read poems by Lloyd GARRISON, J. A.  SYMONDS and Tennyson. Miss.
DICKSON was the pianist. The items concluded with  the reading by Miss.
CUSHING
of Fosdick’s Prayer, which is recited daily by a  million American women.

All who assisted were heartily  thanked by the  Chairman, who hoped that the
propaganda would prove  fruitful.
