The interment of the late Mr. Mattias LORD, of Parton, at Moresby Church, on Tuesday was attended by many friends and acquaintances. The deceased who was a bachelor, 52 years of age, resided with his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas ADDISON, of Quay House, Parton, the family tie between them never having been broken, and the severance is consequently very keenly felt by Mrs. ADDISON. Mr. LORD had been the village lamp lighter for many years, and his death has removed a familiar figure. Having been reared on the edge of the Solway at No. 3 Pit Houses, Mr. LORD acquired a love of the sea that never left him, and sea fishing, boat building and repairing were his hobbies. He had intended to vacate the post of lamp lighter at the weekend. The Rev. H. J. ALLEN read the service, and at the close made a feeling reference to deceased’s devotion to duty. His conversation with him had always been of the pleasantest kind. There were floral wreaths with deepest sympathy from Frances and Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. Dixon FISHER, Mary THOMAS and family, Wee Tommy, Mr. John BELL and family, Grace and Maggie, Mr. and Mrs. DAVIDSON, and Clayton, Betty and George. The bearers were Messrs. S. ASKEW, J. MURRAY, J. McMEIKIN and A. COATES. |
