Boy Victim’s  Funeral.

On Sunday afternoon the remains of Tom CARR, whose  untimely death was
regretted and mourned by a large number of sympathizers, were  laid to rest
in
Bridekirk Cemetery.

It is no exaggeration to say that the whole parish was  in mourning for the
loss of a promising lad, and a gloom was cast over the  immediate
neighbourhood
of Broughton and Dearham, where Mr. and Mrs. CARR are  extremely well known
and highly respected. The elements seemed to join forced  with the prevalent
gloom and depression, as rain fell the whole of the  afternoon, but this did
not
deter at least between five and six hundred  sympathizers from assembling to
show their sympathy with the bereaved relatives.  So great was the press
that
accommodation could not be found in the spacious  church for all who sought
admission. The choir stalls were filled, but there was  no music, as all
felt
that the strain would be too great and thought would  naturally stray to the
previous week when the fresh young voice was heard in  “How bright those
glorious
spirits shine,” the opening the opening hymn the  Armistice service.

In the absence of the Vicar, Canon SUTTON, C. B. E.,  the service was taken
by the Vicar of Great Broughton, The Rev. R. ECKROYD, who  spoke words of
consolation and hope at the conclusion of the  lesson.

Young men of the village requested that they might  have the privilege of
bearing the coffin from the house to the hearse and from  the church gates
to the
church. The bearers were: -
