There was a good company present at the weekly social of the Egremont Fuchsia Club, in the Conservative Rooms, on Wednesday night. Refreshments were served by : - Mrs. FARRAR Miss. COOK Mrs. ENNOR Mrs. HOPE Mrs BECK Mrs. TYSON Mrs. BOAG Miss. S. BECK Mrs. POSTLETHWAITE, secretary. M.C.’s for the subsequent dance were Messrs. John BEBK, POSTLETHWAITE, BECK and H. POSTLETHWAITE. Miss. TYSON (pianist) supplied music. ********** DISTRESS WARRANTS. At Whitehaven Police Court, on Thursday, the Bench granted two distress warrants to Mr. George DOUGLAS, the Egremont Urban District Council rate collector, in respect of arrears of Poor and General District Rates owing by Mr. Isaac JACKSON, 4 Grove Troad, Egremont. Mr. DOUGLAS in answer to the chairman, Mr. R. JEFFERSON said the man was working at Florence Mine. The Clerk, Mr. L. T. HELDER read a letter from the defendant offering 10s per week. It was agreed that the Distress Warrants should not be executed while the 10s per week was paid. Several other cases, chiefly from Moor Row and Bigrigg, were adjourned. |
