WHIST DRIVE. A whist drive, promoted by the members of the newly formed Aspatria Waverly Club, took place in the Co-operative Hall on Wednesday night. Mr. R. BELL was M. C. and the chief prizes were given by Mr. Wm. NEWTON. Ladies: - 1. Mr. C. REAY, playing as a lady. 2. Mrs. SANDWITH 3. Mrs. CARRICK Consolation, Mrs. GRAVES. Gentlemen: - 1. Jas. BLAIR, Harriston 2. Jas. BELL 3. Ed. McFARLANE Consolation, W. MESSENGER. ********** BLENNERHASSET. To augment the funds of the Blennerhasset and Baggrow Old Folk’s Reunion the committee held a very successful whist drive in the Schoolroom, on Monday night. Messrs. W. CRELLIN and I. M. GRAVES superintended the twelve tables, and the prizes were: - 1. Mrs. ATKINSON, Blennerhasset 2. Mrs. H. RELPH, Blennerhasset. 3. Mrs. Jas. BROWN, Blennerhasset. Gents: - 1. Mr. Hy. HOPE. 2. Mr. T. MARTIN, Baggrow. 3. Mr. T. LAWSON, Blennerhasset Half-way prizes, Mrs. ATKINSON and Mr. Hy. HOPE. ********** WESLEYAN METHODIST CONCERT. A splendid concert in aid of the new Wesleyan Hall building fund, took place in the Co-operative Hall, on Tuesday night, under the chairmanship of Pastor C. R. JENKINS, when an interesting programme was highly appreciated. Those taking part were: - SOLOISTS:- Mrs. TUNSTALL, (St. Mungos) Mr. G. THOMPSON, Aspatria Nichol HARLEY, Aspatria. Mr. G. CRELLIN, Prospect. DUETISTS:- Miss. E. BARTON and Miss. A. MONKHOUSE. Recitations: - Miss. EDWARDS Mr. J. S. SHARP Pianofortes: - Miss. HEWITSON Accompanists: - Miss. COILS Miss. HAYTON Miss. HEWITSON. Supper was served at the close. PRIMITIVE METHODIST CHURCH. Miss. M. EDWARDS was the conductor at the Primitive Methodist Church C. E. Society meeting on Tuesday night, when Miss. WILSON, Park Road, gave an address on “Missionary Work.” There was a nice company present. Light refreshments were served. ****** BOTHEL BAND OF HOPE. The monthly meeting was held on Monday night, when there was a good company present. The president opened the meeting with prayer, and Mr. D. J. FOSTER read the lesson. A recitation was given by E. BELL, musical selections by Mr. and Miss. GRAHAM, duets by Kitty CHARTERS and Irene JOHNSTON. Miss. GRAHAM was organist. ********** BROTHERHOOD. “Dodging Difficulties” was the title of the address given on Sunday afternoon by the Rev. M. J. LEWIS at the Congregational Church Brotherhood. Mr. T. MAXWELL presided and Mr. T. HODGSON read the lesson. The solos, “Father lead me day by day” and “House of many mansions,” were sung by Miss. JEFFERSON, Miss. OSTLE being the organist. ********** CHANGE OF NAME. At a special general meeting of the members of the Aspatria Constitutional Club shall be known as “Aspatria Waverley Club.” and that the necessary alterations be made in the rules. The Club will be run on non-political and undenominational lines. The rooms are commodious and comfortable, and include up-to-date billiard table, snooker, skittles and table bowls, and other games. |
