Melancholy accident on Esthwaite Water: we regret to announce a fatal boat accident on Esthwaite Lake, which occurred on 16th July, and which resulted in the death of Thomas Stanley Esq., son of J. Stanley Esq., of Belle Vue, Distington. Mr Stanley has been for some time residing in the immediate vicinity of Windermere, and on Saturday last was crossing Esthwaite Lake, in a boat accompanied by another gentleman when by some means or other, as yet unexplained, the craft suddenly upset, and both gentlemen were precipitated into the water. His companion succeeded in making his escape by swimming ashore, but Mr Stanley immediately sunk, and drowned.

At Strickland Gate, Kendal, on 17th July, Joseph Nattrass, eldest son of Mr John Nattrass, lithographic printer, and grandson of Mrs Nelly Nattrass, of the Old Grapes Lane, in Carlisle, age 18 years.

On the 18th July, at Walmgate Head, Brampton, after a long and tedious illness borne with Christian patience and resignation, Miss Jane Wilson, age 31 years.She was kind and affable disposition, and beloved and respected by all. Her friends resign her in the humble hope of a happy resurrection. "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord".

Recently, at Yenwath Gate, in the parish of Barton, Mr William Ellwood, of Great Salkheld, age 74 years, for upward of 50 years in the employment of Mr Preston, of Stainton, as a mole catcher. Deceased had accumulated upwards of £1,400 and never had more than 2s 6d per day for labour in his life.

At the cottage, near Whinnow, in the parish of Thursby, on Saturday last, 16th July, Mrs Sibby Hewitson, relict of Mr Joseph Hewitson, joiner, of the same place, age 73 years.

On the morning of Saturday, July 16th, at the home of his father, Mr Henry Jackson, Blue Belle Hotel, Workington, Captain Joseph Jackson, age 31 years. Deceased was, until attacked by disease which has terminated his life, Commander of the Irelend.

On the 12th July, at his residence, Ashton House, Beetham, John Yeats Thexton Esq., one of Her Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the County of Westmorland, and Deputy-Lieutenant, age 40 years
