A NEW FOUNDATION  AT
WORKINGTON.

A Convent of Poor Clares has just been opened in  Workington with a colony
from Bullingham, Heresford. These nuns were founded by  St. Clare in the
13th century under the direction of St. Francis of  Assisi.

Their rule is therefore marked especially by the  observance of poverty.
They live on the alms begged for them by the sisters who  “quest.”

The Convent is at present at 11 Banklands, and the  Bishop of Lancaster said
the first Mass in the chapel there on Saturday last.  The full rule of
enclosure will be kept when their convent is built on a site in  Park End
Road.
