Military Funeral at Flimby
Quite a gloom was cast over the village of Flimby when it became known that Pvt. Christopher PARK,
son of Mr. and Mrs. PARK, Lonsdale Place, Flimby, had passed away in the Isolation Hospital at Aldershot
at the early age of 20 years. Deceased was a fine young man, who had enlisted in the 1st Border Regiment and was
greatly esteemed by his pals in the village and by his fellow soldiers of his regiment. Much sympathy is felt for his
bereaved parents and other members of the family.
The funeral took place on Thursday afternoon when a large number of people were present. The service was
conducted in St. Nicholas Church by the Rev. E.T. DOIG.
The coffin was draped with the Union Jack, upon which were placed deceased's cap, sword and belt. There was a military
party of eight from Workington, who bore the coffin to the cemetery, and the "Last Post" was sounded at the graveside.
There were several floral tributes, including three wreaths from his comrades at Aldershot. The coffin was brought from
Aldershot by motor hearse, and Mr. DOCKERAY was the undertaker.
