Re-Arrangement of District Boundaries - Speeding up the Work

The minutes of the Parliamentary Committee to come before  the Cumberland County Council
next week refer to the alteration of county district boundaries.  The Clerk reported that in order to
avoid congestion of the work, the Ministry of Health had intimated that they would be glad if as
many proposals as possible could be submitted before the end of June, 1931.  The Ministry also
suggested that a time table should be prepared fixing dates for the various stages of the review.
The Clerk suggested that it would greatly facilitate the review if the county was divided into four
areas, and a subcommittee appointed for each area to consider and report upon all matters
arising in their repective areas in connection with the review, and further, to arrange such conferences
with the various District Councils in their areas as might be deemed necessary.  A letter was read from
Captain DICKINSON regarding the future of the parishes of Lamplugh and Ennerdale and Kinniside
and the township of Salter and Esket.
The Committee resolved that the recommendations of the various District Councils and the joint
report and observations of the Clerk, County Surveyor, and County Accountant in connection with the
review, be referred in the first instance to a special sub-committee, for consideration and report.
The subcommittee was constituted as follows:  Mr. ROBERTS, Mr. CALLIGHAN, Mr. EDMONDS,
Mr. HOLLIDAY, Mr. McGOWAN, Mr. SADLER, Mr. SIMPSON, Brigadier-General SPEDDING, and Canon SUTTON.
