EDWARD WILLIAM HASELL, ESQ.


       The anniversary of the birth of this gentleman was celebrated on the
16th inst., at the house of Mr. IVISON, the Sun Inn, Pooley Bridge, when
upwards of thirty of the yeomen and tradesmen of the district dined together.

       Mr. Thomas HOWE, of Barton Church, presided, and Mr. James WRIGHT, of
Penrith, coach builder, occupied the vice chair.

       After the usual loyal toasts the chairman proposed the health of Mr.
HASELL, and pronounced a well deserved eulogium upon the gentleman in his
several capacities as a magistrate, a private gentleman, and a landlord, wishing
him in conclusion, a long succession of happy years. The toast was received with
the warmest enthusiasm, and was followed in due course by "the health of Mrs.
HASELL and family," "Sir George MUSGRAVE," &c., toasts which were received
with rapturous applause.

       Several excellent songs were sung during the evening by Messrs.
ATKINSON, Wm. CARRUTHERS, and BOUSTEAD and the hilarity of the evening was prolonged to nine o'clock
