Deaths.

In Finkle Street, on Saturday last, Leonard JACQUES, only son of the late Mr. Edward JACQUES, clock and watch maker, aged 23 years. Beloved and respected by a numerous circle of acquaintances, his decease is sincerely and deeply regretted. As a friend and companion he had but few equals; and in intellectual attainments he was worthy of example by all who knew him. He possessed considerable historical information, particularly the history, antiquities, and family genealogy of his own native county.

In Rickergate, lately, after a lingering illness, Mrs. Jane SILL, aged 75 years.

At St. Mary's Workhouse, on the 3rd inst., Thomas WOOD, aged 42 years.

At Cockermouth, lately, Mrs. Mary DODGSON, wife of Mr. John DODGSON, aged 52 years; Mary, daughter of Mr. Jonathan MUSGRAVE, aged 10 years; Mr. James KENNEDY, aged 38 years.

At Workington, lately, Mr. Joseph CURWEN, aged 60 years. The deceased unfortunately met his death by the falling of part of the roof in Buddle pit, which he was in the act of propping.

At Workington, Deborah, wife of Mr. Richard ROBINSON, aged 83 years; and Sarah, daughter of Mrs. Ann DOBIE, aged 11 months.

At Whitehaven, on Sunday evening last, at his house in Queen Street, Peter HODGSON, Esq., solicitor, and one of the coroners for the county of Cumberland.

At Whitehaven, on the 30th ult., Mary, wife of Mr. James WILDE, aged 32 years; Joseph, son of the late Mr. Joseph LITTLEDALE, aged 18 years; Eleanor, wife of Mr. William TOWNSEND, aged 28 years; Miss Mary Ann CAMPBELL, aged 22 years; Thomas, son of Mr. Robert ATKINSON, aged 5 years; Mr. John MATTHEWS, aged 70 years.

DEATH OF MR. FRASER.—The publisher of Frazer's Magazine died on Saturday last, after a protracted illness, brought on, as it is supposed, by the attack of Mr. G. BERKELEY. Literature has thus lost an earnest supporter, literary men a generous patron, and a large circle of friends one beloved as a very brother. It is often true that an intimate acquaintance, by unveiling defects of character, weakens the reverence, respect, and esteem first felt. This did not apply to Mr. FRASER. One learned slowly but surely to love him, and they who knew him best loved him most. His fine taste, his ardent attachment to literary pursuits, and his sacrifices in the service he loved, endeared him to the most distinguished literati of the age. His unfeigned faith, humility, and true Christian conduct, exemplified in public life, and yet more richly developed on a death-bed, showed that the loss of many is indeed the gain of one.—Times.

We regret to learn that information has been received in town stating the death of M. LAPORTE, the active and enterprising manager of the Italian Opera. His death is stated to have taken place at Corbeil, near Paris, on Saturday morning, at five minutes to one, from apoplexy. M. DUBOURG, of the Haymarket, was with him when he died, and has communicated the account of the melancholy occurrence to London.
