John ATKINSON, (nephew of the late Mr. G. THOMPSON, of the Society of Friends), late managing clerk to the Joint Stock Bank at Appleby, who was tried at the Summer Assizes of last year, and convicted of embezzelment, was last week removed from the gaol at Appleby to Woolrich, preparatory to the fulfillment of his sentence of transportation for ten years.
A petition is in course for preparation for a mitigation of his punishment, on the grounds of his previous good character and conduct.
