Some time ago, a farmer in the neighbourhood of Kirby Moorside, missed four 5 pound notes from their usual position in his house. He had been counting them the night before he missed them, and presuming that he had put them in an unaccustomed place, he searched the house from top to bottom. The search was, however, all in vain, and the notes were given up as lost. A few weeks afterwards, strange to say, as the farmer's wife was cleaning out a closet, she discovered the nest of a mouse containing four young ones, and, on removing them, she found the missing notes not a whit the worse for the singular purpose for which they had been used.
