We are happy to learn that the line of our proposed Canal has been finally surveyed by the engineer, and the plans and specifications are now in a state of forwardness for the contractors. The Committee are also actively engaged in treating with the land-owners for the purchase of the land required. - We are convinced that too much time can hardly be bestowed upon these preparatory arrangements, as in many similar undertakings the hasty commencement of the works has been productive of serious inconvenience during their progress. - Carlisle Journal.
