CONFIRMATION AT BRIDEKIRK.
________
On Tuesday last the Bishop of the diocese held a confirmation at Bridekirk. There were between 80 and 90 candidates present, of whom the greater part belonged to the parish of Bridekirk; the others came from Birgham, Isel, Aikton, Dearham, and Christ Church, Cockermouth.
The church was well filled with the  relatives and friends of the young people. Punctually at three o'clock the Bishop arrived, preceded by the Revs:
 R. CHESSHYRE-WALKER,
 J. EWBANK,
 J. T. POLLOCK,
 J. GREEN,
 G. HASELL,
 W. H. SHARPE,
 W. S. CALVERLEY,
 W. SHERWEN,
 T. W. POWELL
 A. SUTTON.
His Lordship delivered a simple but stirring address, in which he reminded those about to be confirmed of the solemnity of the occasion, and exhorted them to remain true to their baptismal vow, which they were there assembled to renew. He then warned them of the temptations and dangers which they must expect to meet in their future life, and told them that it was only by constant prayer and continued watchfulness that they could hope successfully to resist evil, and to remain steadfast to the end.
