OPENING OF THE
NEW BOARD SCHOOLS.

The ceremony of opening the Boy's  Schools in Fairfield, which is to take
place at 3 o'clock this Saturday  afternoon, will have some interesting
features.

Mrs. DODGSON, of Derwent House, will  undertake the formal ceremony, and
she will be presented with a silver key, for  the purpose, by Mr. W. L.
ALEXANDER, the chairman of the School Board.

All of the children attending the board  Schools will be gathered in the
new building when, during the proceedings they  will sing the hymn, "There's a
Friend for little children."

The members of the School Board and  other gentlemen, will take part in
the proceedings, and Mr. ALEXANDER will  deliver one of the useful, practical
addresses with which he usually favours  similar gatherings.

At the close, after the singing of the  National Anthem by the children,
they will each be supplied with a bun and a  packet of sweets, which gifts
have been provided by the kind forethought of Mr.  ALEXANDER.
