AUT VINCERE AUT MORI

(VICTORY OR DEATH)

The years roll on, but mem'ry clings,
Of those who died for greater things;
Out there beneath a foreign sky,
The sweetest of our manhood lie.

"Your country needs you!" was the call,
And off they went, to live or fall;
No laggard step or faltering heart,
As each went nobly to his part.

Sleep on! You who the dangers braved,
And Homeland from tyrant saved;
You're in our hearts and mem'ry yet,
We loved you then, we don't forget.

R. K., Cockermouth.
