UNCLE PEN'S

MY FAVOURITE SONGS
Prize-Winning Essay:
MY FAVOURITE SONGS
My favourite songs are lively, jolly and interesting, such as "John
Peel," "Robin Hood," "The Keel Row," and others of the same nature. I dislike
songs that are dreary and have not to be sung loudly, such as lullaby songs and
"Barbara Allen."
When singing "John Peel" I feel I am going off with the huntsmen, and
songs about Robin Hood make me think of the man who fought so bravely against
his enemies, and gives me a desire to use a bow and arrow as accurately as he
could. All the time I am singing "The Keel Row," I think I am doing a
beautiful dance in front of a great audience.
I do not like the song about "Barbara Allen" because it makes me feel
very sorry and I am hardly able to sing any other jolly songs for thinking
about Barbara Allen.
At our school we have singing lessons twice a week, and our teacher
tries to select all the jolly songs as far as possible. Sometimes I like to sing
"rounds" because it is great fun when one division gets mixed up with the
other division and starts singing the same. I sometimes like to hear comic
songs, but I never learn any of them myself.
