CROSTHWAITE WIN "SPEDDING CUP."
At the third meeting in the final of the "Spedding" Cup, given by General W. SPEDDING, C.M.G., C.C., J.P., Crosthwaite School "Soccer" team beat Threlkeld by one goal to nil. The match was played on Walker Park on Wednesday evening, and like the two previous matches was a hard, fast game, with the issue in doubt till the last five minutes. About two minutes from the time Crosthwaite were awarded a free kick, and BRANDON drove the ball against a Threlkeld back and it bounced into the net.
Councillor G. W. DENT, chairman of the Keswick A.F.C., presented the cup to LOWDEN, the Crosthwaite captain, and he said he was a worthy son of a noted Keswick footballer, Tommy LOWDEN. (Applause). He congratulated both teams on their football, hoped the losers would have better luck next time, and congratulated the winners on their success. (Applause).
Mr. A. GRAVES proposed, and Mr. J. W. MOORE seconded a vote of thanks to Mr. DENT, and on the call of LOWDEN three cheers were given for Threlkeld.
