REMANDED IN CUSTODY.

William Tomlinson FOSTER, of no fixed abode or occupation, was remanded in custody by the Mayor (Councillor F. W. IREDALE) at the Workington Police Court on Monday charged with the theft of an overcoat, the property of Dr. JONES of Frizington.

Supt. RITCHIE said that the doctor called at the Workington Imperial Hotel on the night of the 8th inst., and left his car standing outside. When he left the hotel later a pair of goatskin gloves and a great coat were missing.

    P. C. WATSON, who made the arrest said the defendant denied all knowledge, but the great coat was recovered from the Gas Works, where he had stayed the night.

The case will be gone into to-day (Wednesday).
