FATAL ACCIDENT.

John ELLIOTT, a youth about 14, went into a field at Bewcastle, on Monday,
to assist a servant girl and his brother to catch his father's pony. The
horse had a rope tied to his neck, which was caught by the servant and the
two boys, but, the animal pulling very hard, the servant and the brother
suddenly let go their hold, when the rope coiled round John's body, and the
pony ran off at great speed, dragging the boy along the ground for upwards
of two miles. The servant and his brother followed the horse, and on taking
the unfortunate lad up life was not extinct, but he died in a few hours,
almost every bone being broken.
