We regret to announce the death of Captain William St. Clair WEMYSS (whose name
was some time ago connected with certain proceedings of the reformers in this
city and county), under very melancholy circumstances. Captain WEMYSS had set
out from Skinburness to cross the Wampool, on horseback, when the tide was out,
in order to reach Cardornock, but getting into deep water he turned back, and
after several times galloping through the water he dismounted - when his horse
made for the land, and the unfortunate gentleman sank to rise no more. -
Carlisle Patriot.
