The weather here since our last has been of the most boisterous and stormy
description. We question whether since the great storm in the latter end of the
year 1833, we have witnessed a week which could at all compare with the present,
for the violence and fury of the elements, or the loss of life and property both
by sea and land which must have resulted. The storm appears to have been general
throughout the whole of the North, and the accounts from most of the ports bring
melancholy details of the losses sustained by the shipping interest. - Carlisle
